Hi folks , i thought i give a Stag less color and see what comes out at the end , sometimes surprisingly good or not that good stuff ........
you guys are the judges if this works or not . .

Same location , another day and another stag , think he is slightly bigger than the colored one.

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 500 IS L 2x TC
    Tripod + video head

    F 9 ; Iso 6400 ; 1/1600 sec , + 1 EV comp

Processed in PhotoNinja and PS CC ; added canvas to bottom and cropped to original ratio . Straight conversion in PS plus tonal adjustments , slight toning with masked color layer .NR in raw conversion to BKG .Marginal D&B in parts of the image .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous post.

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, the color one for me. This one to me feels a little flat. Sorry, but you asked for honest feedback :). Loi

Hi Andreas, sorry doesn't really work for me either.

    - I personally don't feel the conversion brings anything to the table/elevates the image compared to the colour version
    - In parts it also has an over processed feel, may be a clash of Contrast/Sharpening/ISO?
    - I looks a bit contrasty, this again maybe due to sharpening
    - The FG OOF bushes from the left don't really help, would have preferred the smaller amount on the RH in an ideal world so you could see more of the legs, could you not have moved more to the right prior?

I do however like the classic 'bellowing' posture and he certainly has a great rack! What are the white specs around the rack, bugs?

Perhaps Andreas post the colour version after more have commented, if you post it too soon then people will be drawn to the colour and away from the OP/feedback. Then we can see for caparison.

Hi Andreas - Steve has summed up my thoughts as well. The other color image that you posted is so strong but this one doesn't do it for me. It appears a bit too contrasty. The neck and body area looks a bit crunchy/oversharpened. I also wish there was less of the oof foliage in the llc but there might not have been anything you can do about it. They certainly did give you nice bugling poses.

Hey folks no problem with your honest comments , looks like i am struggling to find the right balance with my B/W .But still will not understand /accept as per Steve why this would not work as a B/W , understand maybe it was a less ideal idea to post this after i posted the color image with good feedback ..
So for the next time i should try to post a different subject in B/W then .
But honestly i agree with you guys ............. color looks better .

So for comparison i reworked the image from scratch with DPP as converter ,basically no big difference compared to PhotoNinja , not that one thinks the "fault" was lying in the RAW converter .

    WDYT?

    Cheers Andreas

Andreas, are you saying the OP is B/W, as it clearly has a colour tone to it, almost Sepia, personally I would stay away from a tone that has a red in it, prefer warm/cool greys.

Colour is better, but the FG heather is just too dominant for me.

Thanks Steve , my thinking about B/W was it is still called B/W if it is toned with whatever color ........ but if you say so.Should i call this a toned image ? If so , does make no difference to me , whatever it is called .
Agree without the FG heather , but it was there and the stag decided to walk along there, in the following images the eye was closed or the pose was different , not as good as this , so in the end it took this one .

Ps : base color for the color tone layer was a light warm grey , i think the reddish color came from the curve layer that i have clipped to the color tone layer , could be.

    Thanks again Andreas
