Nice catch! It's obviously cropped and I long to see more space on the right, for them to move into. I like the mirroring of their positions. If they were facing more toward the camera it would engage the viewer more, but obviously not always possible.
I think you might be able to pull out a little more highlight and shadow detail, best done in raw processing. I'd also have a look at a slight warming with the Temp slider.
Very cool looking birds. I agree with Diane about a little more room to right. Since they are taller birds I would of liked to see a little more room at the bottom as well. The head angle is not the best but you cant control that.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Very helpful. In this edit I tweaked shadows/highlights more, warmed the temp a bit, added space to the right and adjusted contrast for balance. (I don't usually touch contrast.) Getting closer to a better image. :)
Diane, manual focus because I use Zeiss glass these days and they don't do AF.
Much improved! And a good reason for manual focus!! At some point you might want to check into AF lenses. I don't know the capabilities of that body, but AF with AI Servo to follow the motion of bobbing heads and the like (not to mention flight) can give you the critical focus needed in nature photography. Even with small apertures, the depth of field is often very small compared to the size of the subject.
