....is that they are very inquisitive and will often approach when you get out and lie on the ground as I did on this occasion. (I was with Kirstie and Sukey only so didn't have the problem of guests jumping out of the vehicle to join me!). I enjoyed playing with the low angle and blending the FG and BG with the subjects. 3 is a good number as there is a chance that they'll all co-operate at the same time. Colours are as I remember, but I'm about to print this large as a present for someone so would love any suggestions.
EOS 1D4, 500mm f4 @ f5, 1/1250sec, ISO 800. Cropped slightly to balance composition.
Hi Ed - gorgeous light. The low pov works really well. It's great that you got all 3 to cooperate and look towards you. The only thing I might consider doing before printing is burning some of the brighter grasses sticking up in front of the zebras.
Beautiful light and pose on this trio Ed, I'd try and extract a tad more detail on the middle one's black muzzle before printing, Rachel's FG grasses tip is also a possibility if so inclined.
Hi Ed , very great colors , love them .
Lovely trio facing the viewer .Comp works nice but if you have a tad more room on LHS would not hurt , for me .
Not knowing much about printing , but i would try to open up the muzzle as per Marcīs suggestion . I personally would not care about the grass , but would keep an eye on the HL in the subjects think there is more detail to extract . Red channel is blown in the web size , likewise all three channels are choked on the other side of the histogram .
Maybe that is not affecting the print ?
Hi Ed, cracking light and a very nice composition to boot! Agree that the middle Zebra needs some adjustment just to lift the darker parts, a Channel Curves selection or just a simple revisit to the RAW. I also like the 'apple' green of the FG vegetation and 'patchiness' allows a nice transparency in parts and adds to a layering of the image. The BKG trees also work within the composition of the zebras and helps separation. Might have gone to f/5.6.
Hey Edward. Killer light, killer angle, killer poses!
I love the layering through the foliage too, and good suggestions have been made above for processing for your print version.
Thanks all - much appreciated. I wish I had more on the LHS but I don't - sadly. I can lift details on muzzle and wouldn't have thought to do so, so thanks. I'm happy with the grasses as they are but I see that some are a little bright. Will play with it and see how it looks.
So many thanks.
Ed
This is such a great image and the colours are superb!
Glad the subjects cooperated, what lovely pose. I particularly like the detail on the zebra, this is so well processed and delightful to view, congrats Ed!
