    Default Flowers for ETL 2

Greetings. This is a close cousin to the one I posted a couple days ago. It is Banksia speciosa, Showy Banksia. The one before is Banksia victoriae. Both Proteaceaes native to Western Australia (found here in the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum).

    Beginning to blossom...

Very nice!! I love the BG in the UL. I'd tweak the color of the yellow leaf along the bottom to match the gray-sh-green ones, and the same with the stuff along the right edge. This works ver well with the almost-monotone color palette. I might even play with the reds in the stem, to make them a little less prominent and try to pull out a little more detail.

I love the one leaf that comes up from the blossom and arcs over it, repeating the same light tones as on the top of the flower.

    Diane, Clyde,

Thanks much for your comments. They are much appreciated. At about 8-10 feet with a 600mm the dof is maybe an inch even at f/11, so no hope for the stem being in focus. I should actually take an appropriate lens for the flower shots... one of these days. ;-).

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
