    Default Muddy Fun

Hi folks leaving the seals for a short stop to Africa .
Grabbed a very old image taken in Addo Elephant NP .
I witnessed this funny scene on my own , because i left the beaten path . I heard these elephants having fun, but they have been hidden by the typical thick bush of Addo .So i went along a track where i was not supposed to go (not off road though) , and i found a small gap where i could watch these guys and could not be seen by others myself. The view was somehow limited but i really enjoyed staying there .Have never seen a nicer /funnier bathing or mud bathing scene .
About 20 ellies in all sizes have been coming and going to this small mud hole.

    Hope you like it too.

    Canon EOS 1D MK II
    EF 100-400 IS L at 160 mm
    Window bracket

    F 5,6 ; Iso 200 ; 1/320 sec

Processed in DPP and PS CC ; image is taken from leveled fluid head , even if it looks strange , the elephant leaning very strong to one side .Slight crop from RHS and LHS for cleaner edges.

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous post .

    Cheers Andreas

The "slope" does look strange. I think the photo is made by the young ones innocent expression. The textures of the mud and skin are really nice. Ellies are just amazing, so many human traits. Pity about the bush in the LH corner.

This is a wonderful moment captured! Too funny!! Great composition of the 3 main ellies; larger down to smaller; highest position down to lowest position; side view, front view, back view! The diagonal arrangement further emphasizes the pushing & shoving. Great mud textures and I like that it unifies all the ellies and at first look, makes them nearly appear as one; which is exactly what is happening here. They all wanted to be in the same place, at the same time! Perfect details on the middle one with both eyes visible and ears widespread.

This is one great fun image Andreas, and the angle makes it special!

My first thought when I opened the thumbnail: POSTCARD!!! Very cool, love the mud/textures, and especially the "frozen, stuck, ouch, help!" look on the ellie's face (the one facing viewer).

    Enjoyed viewing, a lot!

    Kind regards,

Andreas, this is a super fun image, never seen elles fully coated with mud like this as if they gave themselves a mud-spa! I like the composition and colors/texture of the elles.

Hi Andreas - a fun image with excellent detail and textures. While I understand you used a level tripod head the angle does look strange because some of the trees in the bg also look to be leaning, particularly the one above the middle elephant. Yet other trees look straight. I do wish for a bit more room below.

    Rachel

Thanks folks for your feedback /suggestions all are very much appreciated .
Agree with you guys about a tad more space would have been better upper and lower end , but sadly i do not have it.
Rachel the angle was as shot and i would never think about making this a mm different , because this angle of the central make this image very different to me . I know it looks strange ....... but.

I love the angle and the slope that they make all together. The colours are also stunning!

I don't mind the diagonal orientation here, and love the expressions and muddy texture. I wish the bush in lower left corner wasn't there, actually detracts from the visual appeal for me here (and they usually don't)...
