Another IR image converted to b and w, then put through Fractlius Sketch 01. I will be interested in hearing the comments. The thing about IR is that this was shot in the middle of the day. I think a regular camera couldn't handle the wide EV range. Also it took me a while to figure out why the images were coming out so sharp, the camera has no high pass filter in front of the sensor. I haven't had to sharpen a single IR image so far. The downside is I have tried to clean the sensor, with Eclipse fluid and visible dust swabs, and I have been quite aggressive, but can't seem to get rid of the dust spots.

Very nice, I like the effect! And good point about the sharpness. The other side of the sword is that IR focuses at a different point than visible light and when the conversion is done they will do a focus calibration for one lens. Others may not be so accurate. If you have Live View, that will get it accurately, as you are looking at the image on the sensor itself and not relying on the AF sensor.

It's possible the dust is under the IR filter! Who did the conversion? It should clean just like any other sensor. If it is on top of the filter you should be able to see the bigger pieces with a sensor scope/loupe. But smaller ones don't show up.

Hi, Jackie. I like this one. It seems like my IR converted camera ends up with more than its share of dust on the sensor and I don't change lenses on it very often.

I had the same idea as Diane about dust....I had to Google Cubist, doing so I spent about an hour reading about it. Nice photo, sweet as B & W, love the sharpness. Where did you have the camera converted? I am looking for an old SLR and would like to convert it.

Thanks for the responses. Yes I sort of dreaded the option of dust under the sensor. I think it will be the spot removal tool. Lifepixel is expensive for cleaning, 75, plus shipping. Paul I had it converted by Lifepixel. They have specials sometimes with 25 percent off which I used. They have a variety of options, I picked Super Colour IR which appealed to me because of the colours. It also converts well to b and w. My advice as given by others as well, would be to use a full frame sensor camera ( I find noise can be problematic) if you have it, or one with Live View. My camera was calibrated for a 50 mm lens, and I have a dedicated lens (the 17-55 EFS) which seems to focus well through the entire focal range. It is a whole new world when you see the world through IR!

Jackie, for me it is exactly the crispness of all those lines and planes that makes this image so good! Do note that the new theme is Infrared. I very much appreciate all your IR knowledge that you share with us. I didn't realize all the options and details that go into deciding the conversion of a camera.
