    Default Giraffe Sunburst

So after my previous post of this old boy, I went back to the original folder on my drive and found this shot - taken wider. Single exposure, very little tweaked on the exposure side (love that D800 sensor!)...

    Techs:
    Nikon D800
    Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 @ 100mm
    f22 | 1/400 SS | ISO-900
    Exposure bias -1.3

Hi Mork, great work on the overall exposure, especially as you were looking directly into the sun. I do like the starburst effect on the giraffe's rump.

Love the sky colour here Morkel and how the tree bend forms around the chest, with the sun burst nicely placed at the crook of the back, so nicely positioned all round.
Dare I say it have even been contemplating the new 810 to replace my faithful D700. The already great DR is even further improved with the new model I'm seeing.

Oh yes, this works for me Morkel! Lovely light here, and that haze (or dust) in the BG very charming. Beautiful sky. Nice exposure! I'm now thinking of buying the D800...does this "lust for a new body" ever end?

    Warmest regards,

Hi Morkel - this one works much better for me than the previous one. Nice warm light and colors and the starburst is great. The only thing that strikes me as somewhat strange looking is the 2 levels of the horizon in the bg. It appears disjointed. My guess is that the giraffe and tree are hiding a ridge or hill?

    TFS,
    Rachel

Good spot, Rachel - was wondering who would pick up on it first. The higher ridge on our RHS is a larger dune further back which only comes into play behind the tree...

    Hi Morkel

This image addresses all the reservations I had with the previous post. It also has a beautiful starburst that is not too dominant..

    regards

Definately a much more 'pleasing' shot than the 1st one Morkel! The sun sits at a perfect spot and the light is handled perfectly. Beautiful!

Really nice - the only improvement might be a more elegant pose from the giraffe, but it's still very engaging as it is.

Definitely the best image Morkel, nice detail within the shadow/darker areas, all works, but did you use a star filter to get the rays?

Nope, as shot - but there may have been a CP on the lens (not sure, too long ago)
