    Default Trotting Rhino

Often you see rhinos moving along very slowly and grazing as they go but occasionally you see one trotting a decent clip either because it has been spooked by something or it wants to charge something. I thought the leg position here and head up conveyed more of the trotting posture.

Hi Rachel , fully understand your thoughts about this .
Very nice capture even if the light was not your friend really , looking a bit harsh , but you handled this well .
Processing looks great with very nice detail and sharpness, i specially like the deep shadows with still detail kept !! Well done.
Comp is working and i like the overall coloration .

Overall a good job, TFS Andreas

Hi Rachel, good eye contact from the big fellow, and you have also brought out the detail on the hide very well - nice and sharp too. I quite like your choice of comp, obviously too close to have a full body shot.

    Hello Rachel,

This trot looks more like a charge to me-great capture, the crop and presentation just right and I do like the bit of green vegetation in the BG. The colours look very natural to me, the shadows on the body enhance those lovely skin folds, very inspired shot and I love everything about it

We lost four rhino to poachers last week around here, some of the perpetrators were caught by our amazing anti-poaching team (they are so dedicated) but to get to the masterminds who organise those crimes is an impossible task. Word goes around that some judges get bribes to throw the cases out of court. Sorry, going off topic but I just had to tell you. It hurts to see this happening. We are now selling all that we can (rhino bracelets, memorabilia, etc) to collect funds for the choppers and small aircrafts to buy fuel to patrol the area. We often wake up in the morning to the sound of helicopters hovering above, the first thought being "no, not a rhino again".

Thank you for posting this image Rachel, I do not mean to overdramatise the issue but this might be the last rhino image you have taken.

    Affectionately,
    Gabriela Plesea

I like your vertical framing here, Rachel - the foot up and chin up (so often head is down grazing as you say) really add to this.
Light and exposure well handled, with a nice low angle - was this due to good vehicle positioning or lay of the land or were you on foot?

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Gabriela - it is so upsetting to hear about the continued poaching. I certainly hope that the rhinos seen on my most recent trip will not be the last rhinos I see in the wild.

Morkel - a combination of some of the factors you cite but I am going to remain vague so as not to give away location to protect the rhino.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

There's still detail in the blacks and the whites and this is really nice. Good timing and pose. And nice to study the detail on the face.

Hi Rachel, I would echo Ed's observations, great processing. Can't place this one, perhaps you can drop me a line?
