Hello Andreas,
I had to jump to this thread and skip your previous, and I know it may seem like a girlie comment but this really melts my heart. You have earned yourself a full course dinner in the Kalahari in October with this image
The white fur seems to pick up from the blue sea in the background, and oh he looks so innocent, I keep watching in wonder and thinking "what could he or she be dreaming about?", this pup sleeps so peaceful and is utterly unaware of the dangers your previous images have so vividly illustrated.
I am jealous of this series you have of seals, Andreas. You have recorded so many aspects of the behaviour of this species and so many special moments; some are incredibly tender - like the above - while others are quite gruesome (the rape). All part of their daily lives and certainly a collection of images illustrating not just snippets of their lives on planet earth but also ( I think) the influence of man upon their behaviour.
Congratulations Andreas - inspiring work, I just hope hope the earth and its amazing creatures are set to continue after our extinction - something I tend to forget when there are fast food restaurants by the roadside, even though I am living in rural and wild Africa...
Kind regards,

Hi Andreas - I've looked at this a few times. I like the image design and warm light. You've brought out nice detail. For me though I would not have known this was a pup without your description. I wonder if having it smaller in frame would convey that even more. Similarly for me, the sleeping pup just doesn't engage me enough. I wish the eyes were open to engage the viewer a bit more and let us know that the pup is alive (I'm used to seeing a pup with its mom). My reaction seems to be the opposite of Gabriela's but I guess that is what makes photography art and in the eye of the beholder.
TFS,
Rachel

Andreas, just to give you another "girl" point of view! I really like the simplicity of this, a nearly featureless beach, blurred deep blue water and a lovely spot-light effect on the pale sleeping pup. I don't think you need that very top layer where the blue goes whitish. It pulls my eye away from the velvet white pup. For me it is the simplicity of the composition and just the 3 colors that make this dramatic, plus the plush-toy adorable pup that is simply sleeping, with no dramatic poses or expressions.

To me there's no doubt that this is a pup. Lovely lighting and colour. Perfect.
