A little something from the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Kalahari desert). I'll be hitting these dunes again in December...

On this morning, I had come across a small pride at this waterhole called Rooiputs. A female and a few juvenile cubs, to be exact, and as they were relaxing they just bolted off suddenly. As I gazed north up the Nossob river I saw this male approaching. He clearly wasn't their pride male as they made firm haste to hightail it out of there. He arrived at the waterhole and realised something was weird - smelled the lions but didn't see them. He proceeded to scan the area a bit, looking for them, but eventually quenched his thirst and trotted off into the dunes.

This reflects the early mornings in Kgalagadi. I like the composition, well actually everything.

Love the framing of the lion here as he surveys his domain, the overall colour and treatment of the sky are a credit to you buddy.
For mine I might be tempted to selectively reduce the noise on the sky. Appreciate the story as well.

    Hi Morkel

Very nice scene and story to go with it. I still think it would be nice to post sequences together. Would be interesting to se the pictures from your story. Maybe that is more for a blog format, but anyway.
What is that in the tree, a eagle? And is there something with the trees, a tad oversharpend?

    Hi Morkel ,
very nice lionscape with an unwanted inclusion of a Raptor.
I like the overall tone and color , well done.
Sky looks good to me , i do not see noise in a way that needs to be treated .
Likewise the trees , look ok to me.I might think about some deeper shadows , but that is just me . So no big deal.

Hi Morkel - A very nice lionscape. I like the placement of the lion in the frame and the depiction of the environment. It all works well here.

This is just lovely Morkel, a lionscape is what my heart needed right now. Counting the sleeps till October, and a few nights to spend at Rooiputs to hopefully some sightings...Love this image as is, including the Tawny at the top of the tree (I think it's a Tawny). Beautiful colours and landscape, I do know the spot, isn't it wonderful that we know this place like the palm of our hand?

My heart is longing for this place, I cannot tell you how happy I am to view your post, Thank You!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Thanks Gregor - it's a tawny eagle and I am planning on doing a proper story on my blog with a sequence of images.

Like it, a nice openness to the whole image.
