    Default Gull-uttonous!!

After a bunch of mackerels washed up onshore in Nova Scotia a few weeks ago loads of gulls had a feast on the others still swimming near the shore. Most were Great Black-backed Gulls, but there were also some Herring Gulls such as this one. It took less than 5 seconds to wholly gulp the fish down once caught and aligned head first into the mouth.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for comp and to "cut" the wings (both were already "clipped"). Cooled the WB which was too yellow out of camera (added blue in Color Balance, to taste).

    Daniel:

The wings act like nice leading lines, pulling our eye towards the center and the action. Nice framing of the head, good timing on the gulp.

Cute title. I had to look at it twice to figure it out!

    Cheers

Love the eyes on this one! Love the mackerel sliding its way down the gullet. Great head on view and the comp is very much to my taste,

Hi Dan, great head on capture here, love the eye contact, and of course, a beak full of fish puts this over the top.

Awesome shot Dan. Saw this previously on FB and liked it there. Love the expression on the gull's face and the intent in the eyes. Well done. Thanks. Rich
