    Default theme: storm clouds

I photographed this during my recent visit to Newfoundland. I was originally drawn to an iceberg in the ocean at the base of the cemetery and quickly turned around to see what was happening with the threatening storm. I really liked the contrast of the white headstones against the storm clouds.

I converted the color image into b&w with Silver Efex Pro, adjusting sliders this way and that. Back in PS for further tweaks, plus a reduced layer of fractalius on the headstones for some added definition.

Hi, Nancy, I like this a lot. It reminds me of Ansel Adams and "Moonrise, Hernandez". I like the way the fence curves around on both sides and the fractalius as well as the dramatic sky. I might remove the one very small headstone at the top of the hill and possibly crop just a little from the bottom.

I only have one question if you were in Newfoundland. Did you try any Newfie Screech? I like how the brightest part of the clouds emanate from the cemetery. The sky is awesome, looks like the perfect storm clouds, add in the cemetery, make for a spooky image....well done

Thanks all! Cheryl, the crop is a good idea, and I also wondered about that tiny white stone on the horizon.

Paul, of course I tried Newfie Screech. Potent straight up! I understand it was originally rot-gut rum from the Caribbean in exchange for cod. And, cod is still king up there in spite of the fishing restrictions.

Hazel, your comment says exactly what I was going for!

I like the long exposure and the hints of fence here and there. I agree, this image is quite spooky. Well done. Hope you get to see the puffin colony.

Thank-you Jackie. Fortunately the storm moved on quickly and we could continue to photograph. And yes, we did go to the puffin colony. Will post some soon.

Beautiful light on the headstones and fence. I agree with what has been said above. I'd crop from bottom.

Agree with Anita on the crop. I thought of "Moonrise" immediately. Lovely!

    Nancy,

Greetings. A very dynamic image with the clouds moving against the solid headstones. Very cool shot. If it were mine I would take a good chunk off the bottom, just some room below the horizontal line on the left. Good show!

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Thanks all! Seems like the vote is for cropping from the bottom. Will do!
