    Default Night Heron

My first time using the Adobe Paper Texture Pro extension for Photoshop and I think I like it a lot. It automates and streamlines the process of adding textures to your images without taking away any of the flexibility in using them. For this image I used two of the Flypaper Textures images in overlay mode. I added the canvas texture with the PS texturizer.

Wow, Kerry, this is beautiful. The textures bring out the depth in this image, as well as the richness of its' colors. I'll have to try Adobe Paper Texture Pro...it sounds really promising.

This photo lets me know that Heron's have great eyesight and rely on it. The feeling is of intense looking. The colors are lovely--all those different browns, showing me how the bird can blend into its environment. Nice detail in the feathers. What do you think of toning down the texture in the upper left corner, and maybe a bit in the upper right corner? Those areas grabbed my attention from the start, instead of the bird. I find the colors of your signature to be disturbing. Maybe they could blend in more.

Hi, Kerry, great technique and I like the textures a lot. I think I'd crop from the bottom to just above your sig.

This texture is doing wonderful things, especially in the upper part of the image, which would otherwise be pretty empty.

Cheryl has a good thought about the crop. Or alternatively, what woould you think about burning down the bottom part, especially coming from the left corner?

    Kerry,

Greetings. A very striking image! I've not really gotten the attraction for textures but this one works well even for me. Perhaps a little darker in the upper corners as Anita suggests and a little more contrast to the bg in the shoulder. I think also a little more space on the right wouldn't hurt. But these are all minor things. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

I like the light and the red eye Kerry. Might crop out the leg because it is so dark. If it were lighter it might provide more of a focal point. Well done.

Love the effect of the bkgd texture! Fabulous browns that complement the night heron perfectly! Looks like you need the most current version of PS to take advantage of this technique. Great composition with the natural diagonal pose of the heron, and the bit of green vegetation at one end and the red eye at the other. As a minor tweak I would prefer that whitish rock behind the leg to be much less white.
