An early April evening with no wind, but quickly diminishing light, provided me with some panning practice as this guy would continually swim past my location. He'd glide by, circle around the lake, then start heading back for another pass. Didn't get any wall hangars but had fun trying. 5DMKII, 400DO+1.4xTCII, f6.3, 1/250s, ISO 1600, HH, crop from bottom, top, and left (as viewed), processed in DPP and PSE10.

Hi Steve - Always good and fun to practice. Nice colors and good to get the head up a bit. The highlights under the nose look a little off, not sure if you could recover them a bit. I'd prefer a bit more room behind for the trailing wave. You might also consider more of a pano crop.

I like the image, the image design, and the beaver's reflection. I'd definitely crop from the bottom to a pano. With the low light and the high ISO the animal seems to be lacking in fine detail.

    Hello Steve!

Cute looking chap and I think he is really asking for a pano crop, it would emphasize its lovely elongated form swimming across the water...I feel the whites are a tad hot here and there and maybe 1/250s is a bit low for a subject in motion? I would have tried a couple of shots at lower aperture as well if I were you, if only to increase shutter speed...I too like the reflection you have captured and the softness of the water which adds a kind of tranquility to the scene - well done Steve, keep those images coming, enjoyed viewing!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Steve , good to see a ´new´species , because the beavers are well under represented here.
A yes for pano crop , like wise the whites does look hot and for me the blacks look a bit choked .
For panninhg shots i think you need a slower SS to get then desired results.just go practice

    TFS Andreas
