Default Male Lion at Duba Plains

Another image of the same massive male lion I had posted here earlier. he is in the prime of his life and had 2 lionesses with him, no cubs yet. They had killed a Red Lechwen the night before and apparently he had the "lion share" as seen by his sagging belly. Taken in the morning when the light just began to turn harsh and the day became hot. He was looking for a shady spot to spend the day in this little island. Unsuspecting tourists may get a surprise when they go in here for a little bathroom break

I find Duba Plains very productive, good light, interesting open habitat, water every where.

    Thank you for your comments.

Hi Loi, these guys are huge and I had a very interesting conversation with Brendon when we met about Duba, but I still think it is a limited location.

I might have waited, or you may have some other images where the foliage is not over the jaw/chin which is rather unfortunate. Again, similar comment as I made to Gabriela, dropping the frame a little, thus adding more below would have been good, it's a wee bit tight for the legs/paws IMHO. Although subtle, are they red Lechwee in the BKG, LHS? Techs look good and the PP reflects the location & time.

Hi Loi - He does look big. Colors look good and you handled the harsher light well. You could burn the highlights on the face slightly to give a bit more definition there. I agree with Steve about needing more room below and being clear of the foliage.

Definitely interesting to hear the changes in behavior with the Duba lions from Brendon.

And Steve just didn't like being charged by a large male lion!

Loi, I assume you got your 'colour shift' issue resolved?

Yes, Steve, got the color shift under control now, thanks to you. When I got a new computer, I mistakenly set the working space to sRGB, now reset to Adobe RGB.

Unfortunately, I didn't have another image after this shot, had one before which was worse. and no room in the bottom.

Rachel, will look into burning the highlights on the face.

Will catch up with you or Steve later on Mr Grumpy story :)

    Thank you.

Lovely specimen in good light. It's a pleasing angle, which would have worked a tad better had you gotten a sliver more space below and the face unobstructed as mentioned.

The light is first rate here Loi, but can only agree on the obstructing bushes and would wish for a clearer view.
