We had a beautiful crisp, clear and sunny morning to do some aerial shadow photography from a microlight, this herd of eles were very cooperative as they traversed the dry Luangwa river floodplain.
One of my best flights ever!
    South Luangwa Nat Park- Zambia

D3s 70-200 f/2.8 VRII 1/6400s f/4 ISO1600@ 70mm. HH from micro light with a slight crop for composition. Levels, curves, selective color adjustments in ACR & PS CC. Reduced image down to 1000px on long side due to 400kb restrction.

    Cheers
    Marc

    Dear Marc,

This is one stunning image and I am green with jealousy! One of your best flights it might be, but certainly one of your best and most memorable images ever! Very original and I like your choice of title just as much. Would not change anything, I love it as is and have no suggestions other than to print it on canvas! Beautiful!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Marc this is quite unusual , meaning the view right above the eles , very nice.
I like the overall comp and image content.
Colors are working in general , but i would reduce the blues by a large amount .
Depending on your preference , i think for me i would temper the HL to get a bit more detail out of them.

Will have to disagree on the colour/temp here Andreas and after much tweaking with the overall colour/temp/WB I feel it portrayed the exact scene I witnessed with the warmth of the earth coupled with the early morning cool/blue shadow detail.

Big congrats on the victory last night, not a great game (finals rarely are) but a great goal! worthy winners.
Hats off to my Dutch team as well along with Germany, the only other team to remain unbeaten.

Marc thanks for the congrats appreciate them .Loved it , yesterday night was quite exciting and not as bad as you described it , maybe because WE played the game .

Regarding the colors , you have been there , i still feel i personally never see that blue shadows in real life does not matter where i have been so far , unless it is during the blue hour.

In the end colors are so subjective and personal.

Hi Marc - very unique and well done image. The elements aligned well with the strong shadows and nice separation between most of the eles. Well seen and captured. Congrats on this one.

You should be able to save at 1200px across if when saving for web you "Optimize to File Size" and set it at 395kb.

    Thanks Rachel

The hardest part with this type of photography was getting good separation on this herd, with the close bond that mothers have with their calves this was always a challenge.

I do have some that managed to fall into line, .........so standby.

I don't use "save for web" in my workflow (just my preference, old habits) )and yes, understand it could work that way.

Stunning image Mark, i really like the colour and exposure here with good shadow detail. I also like the fact that most of the eles are separated rather than being too bunched up, it really helps the shadows stand out as individuals. Great image

You know I love this - very effective image, mate.
I like the juxtaposition of the eles/shadows with the darker patch of earth top right. Colours look okay to me.

    super shot Marc.
I love the effect you've achieved.
No quibbles about the colours from me. My opinion is that the person who took the photo is best placed to know how the colours should look.

Nice shot Marc. I like the interesting textures of the sand and how the shadows of the animals are so well defined.

Appreciate the comments everyone, many thanks.
Have had good interest by various media agencies in the UK & Australia, so pretty chuffed.

Shadow tone/colour will often have blue in it with clear, sunny blue skies that it reflects off, (most noticably early morning) have noticed this many times, so your statement that you have never seen it is a somewhat puzzling?

Hi Marc maybe you feel puzzled , me not .
But colors are so subjective if ´measured ´with our eyes ....... And that is relevant to ALL of us .

But i do not understand how deep shadows can reflect the blue sky , meaning the shadows on a less reflective surface like sand in this case.
This could lead into an endless discussion , so i leave it to you with the strong blue shadows . And think it is fine , i would just treat the shadows differently .

    Cheers Andreas

Sand is esentially glass, so yes it has refractive qualities........but we can argue till the "cows come home"
It's not me who is puzzled Andreas, (Read my comment correctly,) just your statement that is puzzling, ......simply really.

    Best left there I think.
