This is a 35mm slide I took in 1976 in the rocky mtns. The goat came down to our car and actually put his head into the window. I was afraid for a few moments he'd get stuck, but he didn't. He shifted his horns and pulled out. I've had the slide since then, not knowing what to do with it. I experimented here by taping it only a sheet of white paper, which I put in front of a very bright led light. Then I used my tri-macro lens attachments and took the photo. Did some adjustments with Topaz Detail. The strange frame comes from trying to block out some of the car window.

I was happy to see that this was not a picture of me. I love these encounters and had a similar one at Bosque once when a mule deer stuck its head in my window. I love the humor and the genuine old photo look. Last year I purchased the Canon Canonscan 9000F scanner for under $200. It has been fantastic and does amazing slide scans. Although you can only scan four slides at a time, I think it is a great investment for anyone who has a lot of slides to scan. I looked into the scanning services but they are all expensive and you have no control over the automatic scanner settings they use.

yes, I did some research re slide scanning and you are certainly right re sending them off--not to mention the possibility of loss in the mail. I don't have a lot of slides to scan, so this works for me right now. If I do get near a good scanner, I'll re-do this one hoping for clarity.

A curious old sheep! Wish quality were better, as you know. The framing works for me. This is no doubt a reminder of an interesting incident.

I'm sure the quality would be better had I done a direct scan with a slide scanner, but not having one, this was my only alternative.

    Hazel,

Greetings. I keep looking at this trying to figure out the compelling feature. I think it's the non rectangular frame that holds my attention. An interesting idea. The cyan fringes would go if this were mine. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

thanks Michael. I agree about the fringes, but then this is a photo of a slide and not much to be done about it. I just posted it as an "old" one to fit the theme. My husband and I kept it as a remembrance of the a great trip....a time when a mountain goat tried to get in the car.

Hi, Hazel, I love the framing and I even like the cyan fringes. Cute image - it made me smile

Hi Hazel, I wanted to mention that the fringing is not something you have to accept. The "defringe" tool in Adobe Camera Raw (or used as a filter in PS CC) works quite well for removing these artifacts.
