This image, captured a couple of weeks ago from our fishing boat, shows three (red-eyed) Osprey chicks and an adult, on one of many Osprey nesting platforms on Maryland's Eastern shore. I chose a relatively high ISO to obtain a high shutter speed that would overcome the motion of the boat and motor vibration. In cropping, I kept vegetation on the sides of the nest to frame the image, and some of the platform to show the birds' environment. I applied a little negative exposure compensation to try to avoid blowing out the white feathers. But harsh lighting conditions rendered the feathers on the top of the adult's head less well defined than I would have preferred.

By now, I suspect that the chicks may have fledged, and are learning to terrorize fish on Langford Creek.

Hi Norm, a nice shot of the nest. always fun to see the chicks and parents together. Lighting wasn't ideal, but you already knew that. I don't know how big of a crop, would like to see more details on the bird feathers. Personally, I would crop out the platform, but it is your choice to show how the nest is built. TFS. Loi

Excellent image of nest with parent and chicks. I like all of them showing nice eye contact.I like the inclusion of habitat.
Cropping of portion of nest at the bottom will not hurt the beauty of image.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Nice family portrait under tough conditions. I wonder if a slight reduction of contrast might help? I wouldn't mind losing the platform.

I think the light was not your friend here. Your over all composition works for me. sadly some detail seems to have been punished in downsizing producing those jagged artefacts.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I agree that it might be a good idea to lose the platform.
