Great setting, light, pose and BG. The cardinal looks a bit oversharpened on my monitor and maybe a bit more space, especially at the bottom.

Nicely done. Not a cardinal; it is a Phyrrholuxia (though not positive of the spelling).

Was the image created at a set-up?

Sure looks like a Cardinal to me with the relatively straight bill and very slightly curved culmen. Pyrrhuloxias have a much more rounded bill and strongly curved culmen. Colors look OK for a desert Cardinal also. I can't believe I'm questioning your ID but help me with the marks that ID this as a Pyrrhuloxia. Thanks

    HI Freddy,

Very nice light, composition and BG. I think this is a female Cardinal as well but I could be wrong. Excellent set up!

Yes this was a workshop, and it was setup! but I do believe it is a Cardinal. I shot male and female Cardinals and also Pyrrhuloxia. the Pyrrholoxia has a rounded yellowish bill whereas the Cardinal has a red straight beak

You are all correct. That raised crested fooled me and I had to look twice at Sibley to see my error.

ps to Alan: what is a desert Cardinal?

Artie, not to be flip or anything but it's just a Cardinal that lives in a desert environment. Cardinals seem to me to be one of the desert dwellers that have slightly less vivid coloration than say a Cardinal in Minnesota. Horned Larks are another example. Our Horned Larks are noticeably paler than those in other parts of the country. I have also been wrong before.....unfortunately!

Apart from more room at bottom this is a terrific image! The muted colours on the cardinal look good, and the BG is complimentary.

    Hey Freddy,
I like the overall colors and the comp. A few of th efeathers on the chest look oversharpened but the eye and the rest of the image look good.

Another winning image, Freddy! A little more room at the bottom and this would be stellar! I really like the composition and pose of your subject. Great head angle for the lighting. That place is filled with great backgrounds!
