Due to a poor light angle, the dynamic range for this image was beyond the 7D's capability wrt blown highlights and dark shadows. The "vision" for this is derived from memories of those tacky faux oil paintings seen in furniture store displays back in the 70's-80's.

In time I'll get the hang of the program's capabilities. 55% crop from original, mostly off the top and left.

    C&C welcome and appreciated.

    Randall,

Greetings. I like the look of the background a little too much. It seems to overwhelm the subject... Brightening and warming the subject might work. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Hi, Randall, I like the look but I think the strong bright verticals in the background and the horizontal band of what looks like fog on the right are a little distracting.

It looks like a bird flying over a forest fire, hence, the bg does not bother me, but becomes part of the story. I'd try lightening up the bird a bit to make it stand out more. What software are you using?

Thanks everyone! I agree, the background is a bit overpowering but I was drawn to the strong warm tones with this process method. (Dap golden age layered in PS with DAP realism-tweaks in LR)

Anita, I too see the "wildfire"-I tried several times to create an image even more along those lines but the shadow side of the bird is proving difficult. For the repost, I increased exposure and then pulled back the orange/ yellow and blue channels in LR. Hopefully this one displays better.

I think I do prefer the subtle changes.

    Randall,

Greetings. A thought, pull some of the color from the lit background onto the subject. Overlay solid fill layer with a sample color of the bright bg. Overlay blend at about 35% opacity masked for subject.

I think it hard to pull back the bg enough without warming up the subject (in OP).

    Cheers,

Ditto on the bird flying over a fire my first thought when seeing this, this image is sweet. Really nice effect. Well done
