    Default Canon 1.4x TC Problem

    Hi,

Yesterday while shooting, my 20D randomly read 00 in the settings screen and I was not able to take any photos as if there wasn't a lens on. It only happens with my 1.4x on my 400, and the staright 400 works fine. I have taken it off many times and wiped the TC contacts and reattached when it would work again, but only for a short time before this repeated. Now, sometimes while I have the 1.4x on, the setting screen will show full cf. I formatted my card, and it still would not work. Does anybody have any suggestions, or know why this is happening? I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Josh,
Check to see if the 1.4X is tight and the pin has dropped in to keep it from turning. Many of us are having problems with our 1.4X and it has to do with the pin not locking the 1.4. If it turn even slightly the connections are not made and you will get that reading.

Sandra, it does seem to be moving ever so slighty, but I don't know how to make it tighter.

I just tightened the screws on the TC, and sure enough they were loose. After tightening, it seemed to work. Hopefully it will hold up. Thank you for the help Sandra.

    "00" indicates no Body-lens communication.

A sticking lens mount lock pin is a big problem. If this isnt working you camera body can easily twist off.

I had the same problem a while ago. When I got the 00 error code, I only needed to tighten the screws on the TC. They were quite loose.

    Josh,
The teleconverter will never mount so tightly that it cannot be twisted a slight amount, but tightening the screws was definitely a good idea. One thing about the contacts--on the TC and the body--is that simply wiping them often isn't enough. Rubbing them (gently) with a pencil eraser is what you really need to do to clean them off.
