    Default Mara sunset/shower.

Just back from another fab trip to South Luangwa with plenty of work to do, but here's one for the theme posting from my archives and one that I've reworked from a submission a few years ago
in an attempt to get more detail from the shower/sky.
The Mara produces some amazing opportunities for silhouettes given the right conditions and was blessed with this amazing sunset and associated curtain of light showers that raced across the plain,
the added zebra trio & roosting secretary bird provided some added context.
The very slight glow effect around the acacia is actually in the RAW file so not a halo at all.

    Cheers
    Marc

Hi Marc - nice colors , comp and tones .
It would be great to get more definition in the clouds, but then noise could be problem , i think. And it would have been nicer to have the zebras in the same focal plane as the tree, more DOF ?
Saying this from my comfy chair, easy .

Sure, noise was certainly coming into play, and it's all a compromise, and felt happiest with it as presented.

Next time I'll tell that trio to move closer whilst grazing.

Hi Marc - Great colors and I like the rain. The bird is a bonus. I do wish the heads of the zebras were up but do realize that's nearly impossible to get them all to cooperate. While at this distance it probably wouldn't matter, you certainly had enough ss to stop down a bit more. Looking forward to seeing images from your most recent trip.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Love it Marc, would not change anything... Such delightful tranquility to this scene, a sense of peace deriving from the secretary bird ready to roost and the zebra undisturbed by the pending rain. Sublime colours, very evocative - enjoyed viewing, very much.

    Kind regards,

Beautiful image. I really like the mood of the scene. Makes me almost feel and smell the location. I did wish the slight green cast in the yellows were less obvious and the raptor was a bit more obvious. Adjustments: Auto Curves @ 30% opacity, Channel Mixer R +4, G -6, B +2. Just one more possibility.

A nice scene that I'm sure will serve as a great memory trigger in the future.

Lovely mood and image design here Marc.
Agree with Andreas on the DOF...but in hindsight it would have probably worked (if the zebras weren't that far behind) to shoot at f11 and 1/200 SS? You were doing 1/2500 at f2.8

Yes true, 1/2500 @ 2.8 was in the heat of battle and begged my guide to stop for this as we already late for park curfew.......no excuse really.
