Petroglyph National Monument is very close to Albuquerque Airport (it's actually in Albuquerque) and I stopped there on my way to Santa Fe last November. The park is quite large with lots of trails and 20,000 petroglyphs - they are between 400-700 years old carved in rock by native peoples and early Spanish settlers. I used a slight Topaz Buz Sim on this one.

I've always been fascinated by petroglyphs, thanks for posting this. The very slight application of Simplify is perfect and fits the subject very well. My wife and I once took a tour of the China Lake Naval Base in the Mojave Desert. There you can see over 6,000 petroglyphs in a canyon that is 1.2 miles long. Very impressive and I'm so glad they are protected.

A very nice treatment, and nice to see them in a different environment than I've seen before. Those of you who are into Fractalius -- I wonder how some petroglyphs (probably closeups) would look with that treatment?

    Cheryl,

Greetings. The petroglyphs are very cool & Buz Sim adds a nice touch. I've looked at this a few times and my eye is drawn to the lower right where I keep trying to see a laughing face but can't quite make it out. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Diane, I tried Fractalius first but I liked the Topaz a little better. Michael, I like the half of a laughing face - I think it's laughing at the view he's getting of the backsides of the 2 little guys There is a piece of grass on the bottom edge that I should have cleaned up - sorry!

Agree -- my thought of Fractalius was for larger, more isolated petroglyphs without so much context. Just an idle thought -- I as a Mac user, I can't run it so am not familiar with its capabilities. But I see some very cool stuff from it!.

I wonder if the out of the box petroglyphers had their own special rock?
