    Default Clapper Rail

Bill, Bill's wife Joanne and I returned to "The Rail Yard" yesterday to catch the early morning light on the Clapper Rails. Along with Joanne's expert rhythmic hand clapping, with a little audio assist, at least one CLRA came out of the reeds. This image was captured as the Rail walked through some Marsh Samphier, AKA: Glasswort or Sea Asparagus. C&C welcome.

Some small distracting twigs removed in cs6.

    D700, Nikon 500mm + 1.4x tc, 1/500, f7.1, ISO 320, ff @ -3.0, captured around 7:00 AM, Gitzo tripod, Wimberly Gimbal head.

So glad you guys went back!
    very nice image.
    Love the HA.
I would remove the longest grass. By doing so, I feel the grasses become part of the environment and not distracting,

PS I think I would back off on the sharpening a little bit.

The early morning light really makes a difference. I'm glad to see him in habitat, but I do wish the grass had been a little shorter. We forgot to pack the lawnmower. Nice image with good turn of the head.

I just saw these in SF southeast bay last week. Always in the growth and not much can be done....its part of their habitat! Nice lighting on a hard bird to get. My photos were all shaded so no detail, nice detail you captured.

Excellent image. Very nice pose, details and beautiful 3D effect in the frame BG and FG.

I'm glad we returned too, Gail. The light was more pleasing and added greatly to the IQ. Thank you for your comments and observations. I didn't feel the longest grasses were distracting. Bill also wished for shorter grasses. I felt the few taller grasses added to the dimension.
