I thought for the theme that I would go back and post an image from my trip last year to Svalbard.

    Canon 5D3
    300 II plus 2x III
    1/5000
    f9.0
    ISO 400
Monopod from moving boat, ff, luminosity mask, levels, curves, sharpened in CCPS.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel , love the overall mood , color and contrast .Well done from moving boat with that combo, good job.
But the crop is not working for me , needs to be horizontal IMHO , the bear is looking cramped into the frame. And for a silhouette the bear looks too light , saying this just personal feel.

    Lets see what others say.

I do not think it is cramped, on the contrary, all the surroundings above and below give a great impression of the bear in his env. I am not sure about the "not quite" dark or light in the shot, for a silhouette I would expect a darker bear maybe.

You've done very well here Rachel for a moving boat plus 2x TC. The lighting and just enough detail in the PB works for me.
I do agree with Andreas and would like to see this in a landscape format if it's possible?

Thanks guys for the comments and suggestions. As I indicated in my intro, this is full frame so no more room but I posted some similar images in the past that were shot in landscape and one cropped to pano.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, I like the overall colour & setting of this one, it again has a good atmosphere to it, but landscape wins hands down. Thought the detail would be crisper on the bear at 1/5000 and certainly no issues with the 2x.

Thanks Steve, I applied almost no sharpening since I was thinking of this as more of a silhouette without a lot of detail. I can sharpen more.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

    Hello Rachel,

I entirely agree that the landscape here is something special I have not yet seen in any of your Svalbard images - love the surfaces and the lines, the subdued light, along comes a bear and I so like his positioning in the frame, also the processing and presentation Rachel, this is wonderful - thank you, enjoyed viewing, great work!!!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

I really like the reflections in the water on this one Rachel. Not sure of the conditions but it gives me the impression of a weak sun trying to fight through the clouds.

Thanks Gabriela and Steve. Steve - if I recall correctly this effect was mostly from a sun low in the sky breaking through some cloud cover and shooting into the sun.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel
