This is an extremely rare finding around the Great Lakes, summertime.
    First summer plumage.
The picture was taken very late afternoon when the light was quickly fading away.
    Thanks for looking.

Karl, this is a really beautiful image. IQ is phenomenal, I love it and just keep looking at the detail in both the neck and body feathers. The richness of the dark feathers and the detail in the neck are beautiful against the light water. There are a couple of oof blobs above the body and 1 more to the right of the neck that I'd consider removing, but I never even saw them the first 2 or 3 times I looked at your photo.

Beautifully done and a great plumage to have in your files. Good job on the light too.

The sharpness and detail, combined with subtlety, here is wonderful!! I love how the reflection fades toward the bottom of the frame. A very small point, but I'd consider lightening it even a tad more for the last ripple, at the bottom of the frame.

Excellent image, almost inclined towards high key with great IQ.
Love the wet feathers, great details, reflection and composition.

    Nice finding Karl!
I am not familiar with this specie but I believe you got a great frame of it! nice work on keeping the details on whites and with good exposure.

Good looking monotone shot of this Loon. Great feather detail and it looks exposed well. Nice work Karl.

Superb image, Karl! All feather detail is perfect reflection is lovely... Really like the rather high-key bg too.

I do have a question..... I've never seen a RT Loon .... but all the "commons" I've seen/photographed usually show as "water-proof", even after a dive/resurface....so, here the feathers look a bit "oiled" (for lack of a better term), and bird seems rather "anemic" (also for lack of a better term) especially if this was recently imaged.... and may just be trying to "hang in there?" Does not seem that you were disturbing him.
