I'm back after a relaxed week in Maine.
The current theme will be a challenge for me to comment on, as I'm not a fan of blurs.
Having said that, this one works for me. It captures the feel one has when present when large number of birds take off. Hence, for me, it is a successful image. I like the three-dimensional look created by the blurred birds against the clouds--it adds depth and interest. The soft colors work well, as do the darker wings against the lighter sky and bodies. I've one tiny nit, that is probably peculiar to me: because the horizontal lines are so prominent in this photo, I'm bothered that the grass on the right side is higher than the left side. I want it to be the same! Excellent image!!!

Cheryl.
Greetings. I like the layers of color and pattern and the combination of blur and detail of the tracked birds. Curious... what was the exposure on this one? Thanks for posting.

This is a great Bosque blur! I like that the horizontal layers stretch from edge to edge with the grasses and strip of water grounding the multitudes of blasting-off geese. Maybe a bit off the top of the plain blue sky, having the chaos of the geese pretty much fill the image for maximum impact.

Thanks, Anita, Michael and Nancy. Michael, I shot this at f/32, 1/20 sec., ISO 50 with the Canon 100-400 on the Canon 5D Mark III body.

Interesting... the settings explain the balance of blur & detail. Very cool.

I really enjoy images such as this when they're balanced in composition and tone. This one nails it. The delicate tones and soft hues are offset by the contrast in the main subject. I could see this as part of an exhibit. Perhaps a sliver off the top-perhaps not, works both ways.
