    Default Lion Cub

    Attached Images Attached Images

One of four lion cubs from one of the prides that regularly frequents Londolozi in the Sabi Sands, South Africa. This was as they woke up in the afternoon and the adults had just set off on a hunt. Shortly after this they were summoned by the adults to an impala kill. Unfortunately, the light at the kill site was no where near as nice as this light.

You did a good job here with relatively bright off-angled light.

Cute cub but he/she is already starting to get the serious look of a predator. Nice light and I like the slightly leaning, sitting pose.

Hi Rachel, you got great details of the cub. I think the light was a bit harsh actually and as Artie said off-angled light. I would wish to see the cub's eyes a little more. Loi

Cute cub and a classic shot. Would be temped to just clone those 2 stray green leaves on the RHS, right at the edge.

Hi Rachel , cute cub , nice pose , good color and overall contrast .
To me it looks a bit thin in the tones overall , not much though , a bit more richness would be good , just my two cents.
I took the image and added a curve and set mid point output to 55 and used TK mid tone mask No. 3 to mask the layer.

Good looking subject with a nice composition to frame it in. Light is nice, yes, but I find some spots a tad bright, especially the rear foot. Nice and sharp details, and I also like the bit of vegetation in upper left.

I remember this one, be interesting see the next posting and whether you keep with the same theme of animal.

I think you could loose a little off the top, but personal taste. He did give a nice pose/angle, but the look hides the real beast!

I will start to edit in a few weeks time, so it will be interesting to see & compare.

    Hello Rachel,

Been looking forward to your lion images and I am very happy with what I see Love this youngster and I appreciate the info given because now I am able to imagine him as he stands up and finds his balance in this sleepy state, he is barely awake and possibly looking in the direction the adults took off for the hunt, anticipating a meal or just wondering why was he left behind.

Regarding techs - I really like the presentation overall, I might be tempted to crop a tad from the top if this was mine, but really just a tad. Great IQ, sharpness is there, maybe a bit more toning won't hurt but I guess you tried to stick to what you saw and the light was quite bright at the time the image was taken.

I like the vegetation in the BG, the pose from the subject, nice detail in the fur but especially on the face (nose, muzzle, ears) - great processing Rachel, thank you for sharing this - I really enjoyed viewing

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

They are cute and look like innocent babies. I have no major gripes about the techs, just enjoyed looking at the photo.

Lovely pose here, Rachel, and light well handled.
I would tone down overall brights through another round of Luminosity masking - perhaps only 20% or so opacity?
A hint more midtone contrast would also be nice...

Hi Rachel, the little guy really seems to be fixated on something - love the slight angled pose. The angle looks great having shot from the vehicle, and agree, although the light is good, toning down a touch wont harm the image. Comp wise, Im fine with the space around the cub as presented.
