    Default D600

I have a D600 as a second camera but don't use it because Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom refuses to read the RAW images, I have downloaded updates manually because when I try to use the help button in cs6 it says not connected GRRRRR. My PC is running windows 8 64bit and it opens my D800 images no problem

I can't help with the real issue here, but you can convert the D600 files to DNG and they should open with no problem. Google DNG Converter to get it -- it's free.

Thank you Dianne, thats one way but I cannot understand why I would have to do this as I say my D800 works fine!

I don't know the Nikon bodies -- is the 600 newer? It takes a while for the raw decoding for a new camera to be included in the latest LR / ACR updates. But it sounds like you have a software issue. Obviously you shouldn't be getting a that error.

Here's one possible DIY fix. The Preferences file is PS can become corrupt and that can result in some very peculiar behavior. You can ditch it easily, but you'll lose your preferences and need to reset them. Google resetting preferences in Photoshop for information. But with LR also not recognizing the files, I'm not sure that will help. Their "copies" of the raw conversion engine (LR uses ACR, just with a different interface) are independent.

Except -- what version of LR do you have? If it's an older one than the time the camera came out, it won't read its raw files -- you need to update LR to get the latest cameras. So your issues with LR and PS could be independent.

You could go to Adobe Forums and pose the question if you don't get an answer here.

I would try removing the LR 5 software and reinstalling a new download. Sounds like something may have corrupted the software.

Next thing to think about -- is something wrong with the camera? If LR5 works but not PS6 or DNG Converter it really sounds strange. I wouldn't trash PS and start over just yet. At least try trashing the Pref's first. That can fix some very strange behavior.

But, if LR5 does it, why worry about ACR? OR, are you saying the files won't open from LR into PS?? Can you do raw adjustments to them in LR?

You can focus stack from LR. Just import your images into LR as usual. Then select all the images you want to stack. Then right click (not sure how to do it on a Mac). From the menu that appears select Edit In then open as layers in PS at the bottom of the list. All your images open in layers in PS with all the changes you have made in LR.

I remember having done a special update in PS after moving from a D7000 to a D600, Steve. Can't remember the exact detail but it looks like this might get you onto the right track: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjour...available.html. Hope it sorts you out!

I posted an answer from my iPhone an hour ago but it's not here, so I'll repeat it. Sorry if it shows up later as a duplicate.

The problem is, he can't get to the update menu and the 600 was able to be read before, so he had done this update at some point. (This update is a year and a half old -- they come out every so often, mostly to support new cameras and some bug fixes usually included.)

I really think it's worth it to just delete the Preferences file and see if that does the trick. I've seen it fix some bizarre behavior. Then see if you can check for any updates, but you probably won't have to repeat them,

Google deleting the Preference file in Photoshop -- you'll get information on where it is located, depending on your computer and OS, and a couple of ways to do it.

This is sounding really strange. Can you make edits in LR? Can you export a raw file as a TIFF and open that in PS? Do you get an error message, or exactly what happens when you try to open a file from LR into PS?

I have just opened a file in LR5 and edited it saved it as a JPEG. I right clicked and pressed edit in PS6 , came up with " This version of lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.4 for full compatability. please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu" I already have 8.4 installed !!

Does it give you the option to open it anyway? (It should.) What happens if you do?

Can you open it directly into PS (Cmd-E or Photo > Edit In)? You will probably get the same message but that shouldn't prevent you from opening it anyway.

You said you couldn't access the menu item to update the CRAW plugin (or look for updates)? (Help > Updates) Did you try deleting the Pref's? I've had to do ut several times over the years -- it does no harm, except the nuisance of needing to reset things as you come to them. I keep meaning to make a list of my pref's but never have.

I think I have deleted preferences (I actually have none set) I then tried to open up a RAW file from my D600 the error message is --Photoshop cannot open this file...If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via help>Updates...
If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information :http//www.adobe.com/go/kb407111

This just gives a list of cameras etc and minimum requirements for plug ins.. (I have 8.4 installed). I then click on the help tab and click updates the following error then comes up : The update server is not responding. The srver may be offline temporarily, or the internet or firewall settings may be incorrect.

Steve it sounds like you had an install issue when you updated go to the Adobe website and download and try reinstalling the update again.

But you aren't SURE you deleted it? I would make certain by doing it again. (The buggy issues with this file have nothing to do with whether you have any user preferences set.)

Your next recourse is Adobe forums -- or, as suggested, re-install PS. What you are encountering is very strange behavior. Something is obviously wrong with PS.

I've had that happen, too. You can go in and find the file and just delete it and then restart PS. Google to find out where it is on your OS. With some versions there are issues with hidden files, which you'll find directions on making visible. One way or another you can fix this.

You did restart PS after deleting it?

In the absence of any other advice (Adobe forums?) the next step is probably re-installing PS.

    Steve,

Another way is to use Nikon Transfer 2 to upload the files to a folder.

PS6 should then read the files if you upload them via Adobe Bridge, which I believe is included with PS6. At least it was before the Cloud-only mess.

Alternatively, you can have Nikon Transfer 2 automatically launch them into Capture NX 2.

From there you can one-click the files into PS6. Mine land as TIFF files in PS6, but there may be other options.
