    Default Barasingha from India

    Attached Images Attached Images

Hi folks went through old files again and found this image of a not very often posted animal .
The Barasingha is a deer species that is wide spread in Northern India and surroundings . Image taken in Kaziranga during a safari through this gorgeous park.Image taken from open Gipsy.

    Canon EOS 1D MK IIn
    EF 500 IS L + 1,4 TC
    HH supported by car window

F 5,6 ; ISO 200 ; 1/1000 sec with todays knowledge and kit would have chosen a different setting .

Processed with Photo Ninja and PS cc , original was too tight , so i added canvas to three sides and removed or blended in some elements in the BKG.

Thanks for watching and commenting to the previous image .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas - Nice to see a different species. I like the autumn tones of this. Good sharpness and details. Only thing that looks a little strange to me is the deer's left eye (right as we look at it), it looks a little light, especially the ring around it, despite being in deeper shadow. Not sure if it a function of the species, the light or pp. It's good to back through the files every so often and process images with today's software and techniques.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Had to google this to learn more. Apparently it is also called Swamp Deer. Nice alert pose and good composition (good you added canvas). That reddish patch on his nose catches my attention as it seems to cover the nostrils (or that is just the way it is). And I agree with Rachel about the eye. I revisit old files every so often and it is usually a lovely trip down memory lane.

    Hi Andreas

I finally found some time to visit BPN again!!

Love the light and the tones.

Your Velvia trademark is present, as always.

Love all your antlers( I mean the deer's), you process them with maximum detail!

Tried to see where you added canvas, well blended, can't see a thing.

Agree with the Rachel and Nancy on the eye.

What is going on with the nose, is it the tongue or is the nose like that? Can not find the nostrils?

    Andre
    Regards

    Andre.

Thanks Rachel, Nancy and Andre for watching and your appreciated feedback .
Agree with you guys about the shadowed face area , i dodged the area a tad too much , easy to solve , for me !

Regarding the nostrils , it is the area Nancy is referring to, the reddish area next to the pinky looking nose. And yes Andre the nose is looking like that , always......

    Thanks again , Andreas

Hi Andreas, I think you did 'dodge' the area a little too much and the portrait has echoes of Daniel's image .

Having a pink muzzle I find a little off putting, just looks odd, but if that is the species then Nature has a reason for it I'm sure. Not sure how much you may have chained with modern kit/pp but looks good.

Thanks Steve for your comment , i do not know why they have this fancy looking nose , you could be right that nature has its reasons. Best example should be the Long Nosed Monkey , what are they having that BIG nose for ?

Trust me i am not influenced by Daniels great image , i just stumbled over it while cruising through my India images .

Anyway thanks again and cheers , Andreas

An unusual looking deer, neat to see a new species. The difference in the light on the ears looks a bit odd to me. Seems they should both be about the same brightness?

Thanks Steve for your comment , the ears look the same in the RAW just flatter in tone , no individual edits on each ear .

SH, with a nice rack of horns and a good EXP. I am rarely a fan of sidelight. Here, the shadow and the large difference in the tonality of the insides of the ears is distracting to me. And the bottom 1/3 of the background has some distracting stuff going on. I forgot to mention that I love that nose!

This is a nice view of a species that I never knew about. I wouldn't change anything.

Lovely golden winter light feel here. I too love that snout - so quirky!
You handled the exposure well. I like sidelight but rarely am satisfied with how I expose for it - still need to practice some more haha.

    Hello Andreas,

I am very late to comment here but I only saw this now, I really like the heart shaped nose of this species and you got quite an interesting portrait here in beautiful light. The colours are lovely and the subject pops nicely, good work on the BG (so smooth yet one can still see the vegetation behind), nits covered already so I won't mention them again, sharp and good detail, great pose - well done Andreas!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
