Default Juvenile Burrowing Owl on cactus skeleton

    Canon 7D
    Canon 500mm f/4 v1

Crop for comp and sharpening in CS5

    1/6400 sec f/4 ISO 800

I didn't realize my ISO was up so high until after I took the image.

Good composition and wing position, tack sharp and a nice background. Well done.

Hello Ian, the high ISO does not seem to have had a detrimental effect on the image in fact it looks to have worked very well, interesting looking perch to add interest to a great looking image.

lovely landing pose, BG is nice but is a bit noisy. the head is OOF and soft however. Focus missed and locked on the perch/far wing

Beautiful landing pose. Interesting perch with color complimenting with juvenile's colors, nice BG and composition.

Quite a unique shot, Ian, and one where a square comp makes perfect sense.
I like the perch a lot and the dual toned bg is really nice. I'd run NR on the bg.
Was this a setup? Is the bird looking for food in hollow perch?
I'd sharpen the head and eye a bit more.
    Looking forward to more.

Great action but the head is not quite sharp (compare to the perch and foot) otherwise very nice.
