Interesting image with a neat take-off pose and a cool gnarly perch set off against a beautiful background, but the light was not your friend here. Although the strength of the light gave you all the SS you needed, it also gave you harsh contrast that made for a difficult image to process with both blocked blacks and hot whites. Perhaps more TLC during raw conversion and final tif/jpg tweaking can help.

The pose is interesting. However, I'd try to bring out a little more detail in the shadows. It seems you are losing the area on the back of its head and the eyes.

Thanks for the feedback. I purposely set up for more side lighting to try out some different dramatic contrast. A million pics of birds on sticks in direct light gets boring after a while. I pulled up the lows a bit and brightened the eye as much as possible without making it look weird. I wanted to keep the blacks as black as possible.
