    Default Full inversion

I spent an hour in the evening photographing terns in Bolsa Chica. Terns show this behavior after emerging from a dive, they dry themselves in an rapid shake induced by twisting their bodies. I have captured this behavior before, but it is the first time I see the head turned completely upside down.

Great mid-shake image. You have us used to your sublime techs and this one is no different.

Lovely unique pose, IQ and BG are top class

This water droplets in the air really bring this one to life

Great behaviour and IQ on this one Aresh. I thought the whole bird was upside down at first!! A lot of smaller birds do this complete head turn when bathing but its too fast for me to catch and be sharp.
    Good work as usual.

Whoa, amazing shot Arash. Love the droplets, and the exposure is balanced perfectly.

Amazing capture! Love the water droplets.... and techs look perfect. Only "issue" (not with the image itself) but if someone is unfamiliar with the behavior, it may look rather odd, since there isn't a reference point...."visual info" as to "Why is this bird upside down?" Perhaps the bird smaller in the frame with view of the water from where it emerged might help with just the perspective.

Thanks Sandy, I think most folks who have observed terns are somewhat familiar with this behavior. BTW, this is almost a full frame image, there is no view of the water surface. Terns perform this shake usually when they are a few yards above the water. with uniform BG, you don't want to make the bird small in the frame because you will lose details.

Great looking shaking shot Arash. I know how many frames it takes to get a good one like this. About as good as a shot like this can get, and at full frame!! Love the water spray too. Well done.

Killer pose, exposure and details. The flying droplets add a ton. By consistently posting top notch flight shots, you make this look easy!
