Artie:
The bird has a lot of snap despite the soft light, sharp, I like the slight shadow cast and the raised feathers. Well composed, and just enough catchlight to liven the eye.
Simple can be very good.
Cheers

I like simple... the older I get (now in my 71st year) the more minimalist I become.

I've got that rig also. Nice photo, but very dull IMO. The problem is it is useless with T.C.'s in dark places with the 2.0x.
The good is, in open country with pretty good light it can be used.
I have to stop mine down to get really sharp pics.
A very poor all a rounder for birding.
Cheers, Gary

Hits between the eyes Arthur. You know I don't go too much for plain bg's but this has just that subtle graduation the works for me..
Birds not bad either !!!!!!

Beautiful image Artie! I like the simple comp, the subtle colors, the sharpness is very good, overall very pleasing image. I use the 1.4 & 2X III with my 500 II on a 5D3 regularly and those extenders work very well with the series II super teles.

nice and sharp with great details. Colors stand out nicely. The 300 f/2.8 and 2X is a tack sharp combo, that is in competent hands.

I really like the pleasing pose on the sharp and well exposed bird.
The movement of water (shapes/texture) beneath adds that something special extra.

Gorgeous plumage, perfect HA and eye contact. What a beautiful bird. Short Billed Dowitcher, correct?

Very unique frame you have here Arthur. I really like the look to this and the feather detail looks great. The transition from the water to the legs is cool looking. Well captured and it looks sharp enough to me.

Beautifully done Artie. The bird really pops against the water. You were the one who opened my eyes (years ago) to working in overcast conditions - and this image is a prime example. Love the windblown tertials.

Yes. Long-billed rarely hangs out in salt water and would be a deeper red, almost brick red in breeding plumage. Thanks.
