Thanks Artie for wanting to see the original:

I've wanted to see a male Ruff in breeding plumage, I suppose for as long as I've owned a bird guide. On a recent trip to Tromso, Norway I got the opportunity.

These were somewhat shy birds that had a distance tolerance to humans, cross that line and they were gone.

I took full advantage of the new Tamron 150-600 VR 5.6-6.3 lens. This Tamron lens is going to make lots of manufacturers rethink their pricing.

Getting as close as I dared and hand held, this was the best I could do from about 100 feet.

THIS IMAGE IS RIGHT OUT OF THE CAMERA - Just cropped from 30 x 20 to 13.5 x 9

Thanks Paul. The best thing about this was evident on the OOTB post: the perfect head turn towards you. SH and EXP perfect. If you have process this one straight up I'd go for a similar crop with maybe a bit more room below and I would lose the vertical light-toned REFL in the water. The name of the marsh in Philadelphia is Pedricktown. The Ruffs quick visiting about 30 years ago :)

BTW, you can see Paul's fine OOTB version here: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...postid=1003572
