Default Theme: First Day of Summer, 2007

Greetings. One from the archives... at the beginning of my serious interest in photography.

I've always liked this one... worked on it quite a bit with what I'm guessing is 20 or so layers of curves which was my style in those days (this is the original processing from seven years ago). It was a foggy day (typical for Santa Cruz summers), with the sun just starting to show itself at 1pm. There is a certain kind of softness that comes from a fog "filter" with pulled detail from local contrast adjustments in this image that I've tried (and failed) over the years to replicate with just digital filters, so I look to capture it on foggy days.

I've always imagined the easy going calm of the people having the knowledge of the whole summer ahead.

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

The young child playing on the beach, and the 3 surfers strolling by really conveys calm..nice processing

I like the softness the fog adds. Agree nothing like the real thing! Great summertime image.

I agree, great summer image. Just noticed the child playing in the fg. Must seem like a long time ago shooting in film!

While I like the image design, especially the pattern of the people, the overall look does not do as much for me as it goes for you.

    Paul, Cheryl, Nancy, Jackie, Artie,

Thanks much for the comments they are much appreciated.

Jackie, the child in the foreground is perhaps my favorite part of the image.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
