    Default Marabou Stork

This Marabou Stork close-up was created this weekend at the Montecasino Bird Park. It is a captive bird. Canon 7D with 100-400 at 400mm. 1/1328, f/11 at ISO800. Very slight crop on right hand side.

I should have added a little more depth of field, maybe a lot, and i'm not sure how to correctly compose a shot like this. Please let me know what you think.

The skin looks like a zombie-skin. The clear eye is great. I like this image.

I think you were on the right track here, but here's what I would consider if you have another opportunity or you have more of the stork here. I think I might put the eye in the left upper corner of the frame and then have the 3 layers of orange skin, pink skin and then feathers.

I too think you were on the right track here. When working a super cooperative subject its always fun to experiment with tight crops like this. The one thing that catches my eye a lot is the open space at left edge, perhaps going to a vertical at time of capture and excluding that gap would have worked well. I suppose you had the room to stop down even more, but man that eye is crystal clear and so sharp!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I will be going back to the bird park some time and attempt your suggestions.
