Digging in old images and staying away from Africa.
image taken in northern India with old kit and less photographic experience .
By knowing some will say about the busy FG and surroundings , i do not have a problem with it simply because they live their in parts of their lives. At the end of the dry season the park is looking that and the people start burning the grass.

BTW - Canon has announced a major update to DPP software , already working with it and it looks great so far , sadly only or the full frame bodies at the moment.
Hi Andreas - I like the head up, walking pose here. Once again the image shows off the suit of armor nicely. I don't mind the habitat at all and you've brought out nice textures. Personally, I think it is a little dark and gritty overall and particularly in the upper bg so I just opened the midtones slightly. I know you tend to like more contrast but just another option here.
I like this image and don't mind the surroundings at all. I think Rachel's RP is slightly better but I also wonder if you could get away with a little more saturation in the colours. Perhaps this is how it looks and how you remember it, but I think that slightly richer yellows in the grasses might make it a little less bleak?

Thanks Rachel and Ed for your feedback and RP , appreciate that.
Ed , re colors you could be right , but i went another way, by not just treating the yellows , i pushed all colors in a special LAB edit.
Rachel - regarding your RP , it is just too flat for me and too light overall . Grittiness , actually i do not understand why you call this image looking gritty. With my RP i even went a tad darker by adding a selective color adjustment at 50 % just to the mid tones .
Great pose with the head up and a bit of visibility & color to the mouth. You captured wonderful texture on the body. I have never seen an Indian rhino and find it very interesting how different it appears from those in Africa. I think the pale vs. darker issue is very personal preference. For me I would like paler bkgd with darker rhino. I like all the details in those dried foreground grasses. Adds much interest and reality.
The repost in pane #4 is the winner for me, mostly due to the richer colours. I personally would have preferred more of a profile pose on the face, I suppose it was aware of your presence and being a tad curious, but a very cool image nonetheless.
