    Default Mallard in IR

I was out yesterday, exploring more IR, and I have still have lots to learn. Some photos convert well, others not so much. This one seemed to convert well, but I have to turn down the highlights and whites in Photoshop both down to minus 100 in pretty much all the shots and it can still be bright. Most of the photos I use are at -2 exposure. Anyways I used Topaz Clean and cloned out a million tiny floating bits in the water. I left the rest as I thought it was like a little archipelago I masked the eye back in and put a tiny white dot on to accentuate the highlight. (It looks more obvious larger) Now that I look at it I think it might need some CCW rotation. Too tired at the moment.

Hi, Jackie, I'm really liking your IR images. The color adds a whimsical feel to them and I like the Clean look. I wish I had another old camera to convert to color IR in addition to the B&W one I've got.

It looks just right to me. I would not have guessed this was IR. Love the composition--the log leads my eye to the Mallard, the grass leads it down, then across the bottom edge to the left to the water lilies, up to the log. The eye looks good--it adds just the right touch to the Mallard. I like that the duck is looking towards the photographer/viewer. You did a great job in Topaz Clean. I wouldn't change a thing.

    Jackie,

Greetings. The color really holds my attention particularly the color contrast between the major elements - water, vegetation, mallard. Rotation looks good to me (reflections line up). Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Jackie, I really like the unique glow and translucent colors that seem to be associated with IR. Very nice effect you achieved with Topaz Clean. I have been experimenting with Topaz Clean 3 and really like the additions they have made. Great composition with the log leading to the duck. And I really like the lily pads fanning out and surrounding the duck. Great job!

Thanks for the comments. This is so much fun, I am really enjoying learning about IR. Anita, I think the only way to figure out this is IR is by looking at the beak which should be in colour.

Sweet image Jackie, IR is something I've always wanted to try but just haven't gotten around to it.

    Interesting colors
