This is the same kestrel I have been photographing at the castle for several weeks now, from building the nest, to the present day. I am pleased to say that two chicks have now hatched and are at the stage where they are nearly ready to leave the nest. This is very good news as kestrels are declining in my part of the world.

This is the best image I have of the male kestrel passing over a vole to one of the chicks.

    Thanks for looking

    Good stuff William
All the kestrels I have done, the male has passed food to the hen off site. Only had a male feeding chicks twice.
Well done. They don't hang about either do they !!

An unusual nest site. very appealing. Nice to have the tack sharp back view and the head visible.

They don't John. Very fast indeed, right in, then away again. I had to be alert, to capture this one . I also noticed, that what you said was correct, the male usually passed the food to the female on a nearby tree.

    Cheers

it is a handsome bird, I'm OK with man made elements here (bricks) since it is a part of the nest but unfortunately the shooting angle is too steep and he is also angled away from us making this a challenging condition to get a good frame.
