    Default heron vs eagle

Today I watched a great blue heron get attacked by red-winged blackbirds for over an hour. The heron finally got a break from the attacks, and caught itself a fish to eat. Little did the heron know, that a bald eagle was perched on a tree above it, just waiting to steal its fish. I was fortunate enough to get a video recording of the eagle chasing the heron away from it's fish. Enjoy! (Video recorded with a Canon 60d and 400 f5.6 lens)

Very cool! I had to freeze the frame in the quarter speed segment to realize the eagle had not missed the fish - I saw something trailing him after the splash that I thought was the fish, but I couldn't believe the eagle would have missed it. Good to know he didn't!

If you got the redwing blackbird attacks recorded as well, I would think about splicing in a brief amount of that as the lead in to this segment. It would tell the full story of a bad day for the heron, plus I really enjoy how feisty and aggressive those blackbirds can be against larger birds.

I enjoyed seeing this, thanks for posting.

Great Footage. I especially like the one turtle behind the grass appears to be oblivious of everything going on around him.

Thanks so much Barry and David. Barry - I do have the red-winged blackbird attacks on video, but haven't gone through them yet. Splicing them together though is a great idea, I'll keep that in mind when I sort through the rest of my photos and videos.
