Thanks to Alice Cooper for the title, some of you might even know who that is. Bodie is a fantastic ghost town in the high Sierra mountains of California and was once a booming mining community. It has an amazing history that I can't even begin to tell you about in this thread. I suggest that you check it out online, as the story is very interesting. It is a haven for photographers and artists, as the entire town has been preserved and is in a state of "arrested decay". As you walk around the town and look inside the buildings, you get the feeling that the people just vanished one day and left everything exactly as it was.

The schoolhouse was originally a different building, but in 1879 the school was moved to what was previously a hotel, in order to make more room for the growing community. From 1870 to the demise of the population in 1943, children attended classes in this building and the organ was in a corner of the main room. I used Alien Skin Exposure to do this conversion plus Nik CFX Pro for the vignette.

P.S. - the title of the poster on the wall (above the organ) is "The Spirit of Education".

Well done and you truly captured that "arrested decay" feeling with the hazy black & white & rough vignette! Funny combination of stuff on the wall; "Wisconsin", "the spirit of education", and a ship drawn by a child. Really makes you speculate about this room, and this town. I like the repeating pattern of the vertical lines on the boards on the wall and the lines of the piano keys. The brighter fronts of those keys catch my eye first, and then I roam around the room taking in all the other details.

I remember that song well, as we drove around at our cottage in a VW Bug. I like the b and w, and the softness of the image. This must be a great place to spend time.

Kerry, this looks like a dream of a place for photographers. Like Nancy, I find the articles hanging on the wall very interesting (and odd). I love the processing.

Nice job. I'm surprised they had an organ in the classroom. Your processing is just right for this photo. Thanks for your description of the place.
