Although the boat provides a super low angle view it is not without its frustrations. Although the boat is stable there are numerous factors that influence ones capture of images - weather, river current, skipper and guide, boats speeding close by and causing wakes or a fellow photographer sitting next to you who "accidentally" lets their BIG lens swing freely whilst they are trying to use another short lens configuration to shoot something that has caught their eye. "Get my drift"
So if you don't end up with a bump on the forehead or have something black and blurry seeping through the lens viewfinder and are wondering WHY YOU CANNOT FOCUS on the subject it might be that wondering lens. There will be some weird F stop settings or other tech issues due to some of these frequent frustrations.
It was Jacana season with nests and tons of new chicks all over the marshy areas.
Not sure about the comp. Should have kept a bit on top.

What an adorable chick and image, Carl. The chick has so many wonderful details. There's a little light in its eye. Super pose. If it were mine, I would crop quite a bit off of the bottom up to the top of the large brown vegetation and maybe add a tad on top. Or you could crop off of the bottom, take a little bit off of the left up to the leaf and go for a pano. Well done in a difficult situation.
Carl
I know exactly what you mean by references to "other photographers" It is often quite bad in hides over here.
Anyway- I love this littl fella - and a suppreb pose. I think maybe a slice of fthe bottom but no big deal. The background has a lot going on but it still works for me.

I had a good chuckle when I was reading your description of shooting in the boat. I have "been there, done that"!
This is a great shot. The chick is full of great detail. Beautiful low POV and tack sharp.
I really like the pose as well.
I would take a big chunk off the bottom and come in a bit from the right to focus the eye straight into the chick.
Well done and one to be proud of,
Gail
Nice shot. I love the pose, you timed the action well. I agree with Marina on the crop. Were it mine, I would be tempted to bring up the catchlight in the chick's eye. I had never seen these chicks before. Very cute and you captured it well.
Wow Carl, this is such a delightful "catch" you got here! I read with some amusement your description of shooting conditions in this instance, yet despite moving boat and the presence of other fellow photographers you grabbed yourself a winner here! How gorgeous is this little chick, love the attentive pose, beautiful colours! Love the inclusion of environment and the point of view, agree with advice re. taking a bit off the bottom of the image and bringing a tad more life into the eye.
