There are 30 known nesting pairs of this bird in the UK, all of them in Scotland.
I managed to capture this one on my recent (very rainy) 3 day trip to Cairngorm
I wasn't very sure on what would be the best crop for this image, I looked at a tighter crop, but it didn't seem to look right with the reflection being 'cut' off at the neck.
Thanks for having a look and any advice appreciated.
Stunning capture and I cannot imagine a better crop, this works for me! Great DOF and nice detail on the bird, colours look natural and the pose is perfect-very well exposed and I love the water droplets on the back, lovely, thank you for this post, enjoyed viewing!
Very nice image William. I remember when all the old boys used to do these up North in the old Hoskin days. That eye is amazing ! You raise exactly my point about reflections. If you chop them they look worse. Rippling watrer is what I prefer- threy don't look so bad if the refeection is chopped then.
( I chuck a brick in !!! )
Nice one

It is always a treat to see a new species. You must have felt very privileged to be so close to this grebe.
I agree that this is probably the best crop for this image.
I would clean up the black spots in the water and I think there is a dust spot in front and below the tip of the bill.
