Default Eastern Screech Owls at Night

Three Eastern Screech Owls nesting in a Wood Duck house on a tree. It was after dark when these three finally popped their heads out waiting for their supper to arrive with one of the adults. At first only two and then the third one squeezed his head through the hole also. I needed to use a flashlight to focus and a flash to take the photos, shooting from the moon roof window in my car with the lens on a bean bag. The image is cropped and I did burn in the highlights on the galvanized metal nesting box and sharpened.

    Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
    500MM +1.4X, f/5.6, 1/60, ISO 800, with flash and cropped

Cool shot, Bruce! Love the three faces! The harsh flashed look is not the best but under the circumstances, you had no real choice. You might consider removing all color from the eye pupils selectively.

Bruce I don't think I'm qualified enough to make a comment on the technical bits on your image, but I do know from a naturalist/artistic eye this is superb , can't stop coming back to it
    Thanks for showing it.
    Regards Keith.

Thanks Dan. I hadn't thought about the color removal on the eyes. I'll try that.
    Thanks for the comments Keith.

Love seeing them squeeze through the tiny cavity.

Well captured Bruce. At first glance it almost looks like more than 6 eyes.

Beautiful. This is a great shot. I agree with Dan, I would add contrast and darken the eyes and lower the color saturation of the pupils. With some playing around, you could get the eyes looking less like a flash photo. I love the three faces all crowded together. Nicely photographed!

This one made me smile! I think that if you got the red eye out you would have one heck of a sweet shot!

I reworked the eyes as suggested. Here is a revised version.
