    Default Laptop Calibration Help Needed

I have a new ASUS laptop. My old faithful HP is being retired. I recently used the old and discontinued i1 Match 3 Device from GregTagMacbeth.

It took some searching around to come up with the right drivers. If anyone needs help with that or help with setting the gamma on a Windows laptop to control brightness let me know and I will post it here.

The new machine was much too dark. I was able to get the brightness for each about the same with the gamma adjustments.

After color calibrating both machines the old machine is way to warm/yellow and the new machine is way too bright. They should look pretty similar but they do not.

Here is the question: how do I make sure that the laptop is using the most recent color calibration. I used to know how to do that but..... i used to remember a lot of things :)

Hello Arthur, I think this will get you to where you want to be. Click on the Start button, click on Control Panel, then in the search box at the top type in Color Management. That should bring up a screen showing the information you need. Make sure the box... Use My Settings For This Device is checked. Below that the Color Profiles will be listed. The one the computer is using will be shown as the default. If the one you want is not listed as the default then make it the default. Also if you watch when your computer boots up at the end of the boot process a box will show indicating what color profile it is using.

Joseph, I followed your instructions and found no color profile listed as the default. Under the "add" button there are well over a dozen choices. How does one choose? And what is the difference between WCS Device Profiles and ICC Profiles? Thanks for any more information.

Joe, Please accept my belated thanks. Your explanation was clear, concise, and easily followed.

I now have both of my laptops looking pretty good and nave controlled the brightness issues. Everyone using a Windows machine may wish to adjust the gamma settting on their laptops or home computers as follows:

    Go to start menu

    In search box type; calibrate

Then pick calibrate display color and follow the directions :)

Further: because I downgraded to Windows 7 from Windows 8 I needed to find suitable drivers for the hotkeys (Fn keys)> ASUS chat told me that they were not available for Windows 7 for my machine. Phone help told me the same thing but gave me a lead. Following that: atkacpi driver a search led me to the right driver that was easily installed. After calibrating with Color Munki the displays on my two laptops are now identical :)
