Default theme: bird migration in the abstract

I was looking for another way to apply the theme without using the center focal point. The base image is part of a huge flock (maybe thousands) of migrating pratincoles we watched one evening while I was in Botswana in April. The numbers were phenomenal! I created in-camera blurs as well as sharp images. This is from one of the blurs.

I used Pixel Bender, oil paint to further emphasize the blur and add a soft, swirling effect to the bkgd. Then I love experimenting with Flaming Pear to achieve abstractness. One layer of something called "tachyon". Then "zephyr" layered on top, blended with the multiply mode and reduced to 83%.

This has really grown on me. Ordinarily, I'll react very quickly to an image and respond right away. Because of some outside taps on the shoulder, I wasn't able to do that with this image. When I came back to it, I saw the same things that appealed to me the first time, but, perhaps in a different way. I'm not sure why.

Even though it's abstract, there is a definite flow to the image. The Pixel Bender effect in the background does a wonderful job of echoing the shapes and actions of the birds. It really gives the impression of the numbers you saw. I like the change in colors -- the pinks, especially -- from one part of the image to another. There seems to be a corresponding change in size, and I think both give some organization and direction to the shapes we see.

If you didn't mention birds it really looks like something microscopic, parts of DNA or something. It works well as an abstract to me.

An excellent abstract. Of course, I love the blue. I like how it is darker at the top and lighter at the bottom, and how the birds become larger towards the bottom. I, too, like the pinks. Good work. A creative approach to the theme.

That's really cool Nancy! I do love the flow of color and scale that comes from the lower right corner with the bright area in the upper left corner to complement it. Cool application of the oil paint filter.
