Default Showing Lots of Yellow - Grasshopper Sparrow.

None of my field guides (or any online) show much of, or talk about, the yellow eyebrow and front of the wings that these guys show here. Perhaps a regional variance? In any case, I find this species quite striking upon closer inspection...

The perch is a natural one but I knew I would use it for the image. Some physical clean up done pre-capture to the fg and bg to rid of potentially distracting elements. Subject encouraged onto the rock with audio.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop for comp. In hindsight I should NOT sharpen the in-focus lichens on the rock...

Beautiful background and cool bird Daniel. Image quality and techs look awesome. Lichens don't bother me. If anything and I know we tend to disagree on this, I would be tempted to show off more of the BG and give a bit more space around the bird.

Nice pose, and I love the painterly hint of grass habitat in the BG. The yellow over the eye is a field mark I look for, but I had never noticed the extent of yellow that you captured on the front of the wings. Lovely shot. I went out in search of these guys in a local grassland last night, and although I heard and saw a number of them, I couldn't entice them to come in close on a decent perch.

Bird, image design, details, head angle, eye ring, flat head, and all the soft colors are great. Love it.
