Photographed at sunset on the Chobe in Botswana, from the specialized photo boat. It was spectacular to see this herd leap through the water and create that dramatic splashing. It was over in just a few minutes! As it happened I did not see that one lechwe leap so very high and was very pleased to see the acrobatic leap when I reviewed the images! There was a HUGE dragonfly hatch and that is what all those spots are in the sky.

Hi Nancy ,
very dynamic image with really good colors and overall contrast. You brought some nice detail in the shadow areas.I like the overall comp but think you can loose some of the FG to balance the image , because i feel the Leechwe on LHS is too close to the top of the frame.
Have you used S/H on this one, i am asking because of the haloing that is going on around the jumping Leechwe and the reeds on the top of the frame ?
I a real nice world the animals would have jumped into your direction .
Hi nancy, very nice color and contrast to see the lechwe. I'm with Andreas regarding losing some of the FG. I also think that there is a red cast in the water that you might want to bring it down slightly, Loi
hi Nancy i would suggest avoid using S/H , In my humble opinion it is a quick and DIRTY solution for the effect you want to achieve , but not a good one.If you use it , i would use a mask to prevent that very obvious haloing.
Lovely scene/action/light - you were lucky to get them out in the water at dusk Nancy.
I agree on the halo, and I'd lose some FG here as mentioned.
Does it need a slight CW rotation?
Sorry to come in so late, been meddling in the Avian section for a while Reading your story, I can just imagine your joy and surprise when you looked through your folders and saw the leaping fella! I once took some shots of rhino from an aircraft and discovered two cheetah nearby when I downloaded...
I like this, the whole image has a sense of urgency to it, the colours - my mind's eye sees lots of red and gold - add intensity to the moment, it is as if the subjects are trying to escape from something...they might be just crossing water but I cannot help but see a predator behind them. I agree entirely with losing a bit of the FG, not sure about rotation although Morkel has a good eye for these things so I leave that to you. All in all I must say I am impressed with this capture, fresh and different in every way and certainly memorable - great work Nancy, one surprise after another and I am really enjoying your work, so looking forward to your next post!
