Something I could never have done with the D200 due to noise at high ISO's.. The noise level at 2000+iso on the D7000 is quite good. This is my first attempt. Not right yet but there are possibilities.

For a first try this is surely nice
Pose captured is fun open wings the catch is a add on to the image
i like it, if the BG was a tone less saturated it may be more wonderful to the eye
hope to see more of these from you

Well done John. Not an easy image to capture. Like the clear view of the head/prey and feet. The whites look a bit hot on my work monitor, but it isn't reliable on the bright end of the scale.
The IQ has suffered a bit from the large crop.

    Look forward to future captures.

    Cheers

Hi John, I like this incoming pose with the raised wings and bent feet. Thats a beak full of food, and I do like your BG. Looking forward to more.

This is wonderful! And without flash makes it doubly admirable. I don't mind the bit of white on the OP and prefer the greener BG color there.

Can't wait to see the second attempt!

Hey John, I was shooting with a D-200 not so long ago, The 7000 should open a new world to you. A nice pose, I like the feet up and ready. Ready to see more.

    Thanks all - Appreciated
Robert- Still have my trusty D200 I love the heavy feel of it . Feels like a real camera !1 Still use it a lot. If you got the exposure right the noise wasn't too bad.
Diane- Thanks. Bit of a dilemma really . We usually have several pairs of these around but they have really gone down recently. There is no doubt that photographing them coming into a nest box for flight stuff puts them off a bit. We have the one pair only this year and I feel I really ought to let them get on with it un disturbed. The weather has been terrible (rain) so they need all the help they need . We will see !
    Cheers

Brilliantly timed & cropped image John. Originally thought the first post with powerful colours my preference, but on reflection re-edit gets my vote for naturalness and less obtrusive background. Beautiful image.
